Stem cells to be used treat heart failure

Cosmetic Surgery in Hyderabad

Studies are being done that prove that there might be a link between stem cells and treatment for heart failure. These studies show that injection of some bone marrow stem cells into the bodies of heart patients may extend their lives and make them healthier.

In fact, researcher Bodo- Eckehard Strauer of the Heinrich Heine University in Dusseldorf, Germany claims that the impact of stem cell treatment was apparent within the first three months of the study and the benefits were studied and observed in detail over the next five years. The patients were closely followed to see how this treatment settled with them. This experiment is notable because of it’s impact on the field of stem cell research and treatment, but it is not the first study to show the benefits of stem cells on people with heart conditions. However, it is the biggest tests done in the field of stem cell therapy so far- with 391 patients observed. It’s also the first study that shows that following stem cell treatment would actually reduce the risk of death relating to chronic heart failure, which is quite a discovery. According to Strauer, this disease is effective when used on top other treatments for chronic heart diseases as well and it does not have any risks attached to it.

One of the major problems associated with heart failure is the fact that the heart muscle becomes scarred and it loses its ability to pump blood throughout the body. This problem is bigger following a massive heart attack. The American Heart Association hopes that treating these patients with stem cell in the scarred area would bring some life back into the area and help in the build- up of healthy muscle again. Stem cells are usually at an early stage of maturation and they have the ability to turn into different types of cells after maturation- they certainly can turn into heart muscle cells as well.

In the 391 people study, the bone marrow stem cells are taken from the patient’s pelvic bone. They are then processed in the lab so that they can be injected into the scarred heart muscle. Five years after the study has started, around 7 of the 191 patients who took the stem cell treatment died. On the other hand, 32 out of 200 people who did not take the treatment died. There is a substantial difference between the numbers. The stem cell treatment improves the heart’s ability to pump blood and can restore blood flow to heart muscles. The patients who took the stem cell treatment are actually able to be more active and even work out with the help of stem cells.

None of these patients have experienced any side effects as well. These patients continued to receive optimal medical treatment throughout the course of the study and they never showed any negative effects- showing that there are almost no risks of undergoing this treatment.  There are slight risks of the same- it is possible that there might be some increase in life-threatening heartbeats, but it is being worked on. The patients were aware of the fact that they were undergoing stem cell treatment- it was not one of those tests where the people were not informed about the same.

Kidney disease requires Magnesium

Cosmetic Surgery in Hyderabad

Magnesium is one of the nutrients that are essential for the body to function well. In fact, it is one of the most abundant minerals found in the body. Magnesium is a prerequisite for about 300 chemical process in the body; it is necessary to maintain a normal muscle and nerve function, keeping the bones strong and maintain blood sugar levels at all times. It also supports the functioning of a healthy immune system. However, one of the most crucial jobs that this nutrient performs is in the area of magnesium and kidney disease.

As we all know, our kidneys are the natural filters of our body. Their main purpose is to keep a check on all the blood ensuring that its composition remains somewhat constant. If the blood gets too concentrated or too dilute, the kidneys work accordingly and filter out the excess water or the excess nutrients.

In the case of kidney disease however, these organs fail to perform their function adequately. They fail to make sure that there is enough magnesium in the body and this becomes increasingly problematic as magnesium is required to complete several essential processes in the body. This could work both ways, either there is excessive filtration of magnesium which is known as hypermagnesaemia, or there is not enough magnesium secreted, a condition which is known as hypomagnesaemia. Both are harmful in their own regard which is why it is essential to make sure that you are checked for kidney disease as soon as you start experiencing symptoms or if there is a history of such diseases in your family. The connection between magnesium and kidney disease cannot be taken lightly because the functioning of your body depends on it.

Looking at the consequences of the link between magnesium and kidney disease, we all realize that it is important to consume this nutrient on a regular basis. However, this is not too troublesome because there are a lot of natural foods that are great sources of this element. Incorporating these into our diet will make sure that we avoid all magnesium related problems. Here is a list of such foods

  • Wheat bran in either its natural or cooked form.

  • Spinach which can be frozen, cooked or eaten naturally.

  • Almonds in all forms

  • Potatoes which are baked and have their skin intact

  • Peanut butter
