Indian hospitals and doctors are setting a world class standard in the medical profession. Costs of medical expenses are much lower compared to any other country. Indian hospitals have state of the art medical facilities and they use advanced medications to treat diseases. Professor Govindaraj and Ravi Ramamurthy studied the hospitals in India from a closer angle and they speak about how India is able to offer world class medical facilities.
The webinar over all addresses the problems of increasing medical costs in countries like USA and UK. They share some interesting aspects about how health care can be made affordable to people. They highlight the example of the Indian hospital scenario which is developing consistently despite of the fact that the insurance industry is not accessible for everyone.
The webinar was conducted on Feb 11th, 2014. The speakers of the event are highly regarded for their proficiency in their field of research. Mr. Vijay Govindarajan is the Earl C. Daum in Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Mr. Ravi Ramamurti is a professor of International Business sand Strategy in Northeastern University.
They coauthored the HRB article called ‘”Delivering World-Class Health Care, Affordably.” This article gives us deep insights about how complicated the medical industry has become. Finally they do highlight the importance to simplify this scenario by learning from countries like India.
Lower High Potassium in Diabetes Induced Kidney Disease
Diabetes is a complex condition which is progressive by nature. As the disease advances it starts affecting several vital parts of the body like the heart, kidneys and nervous system. The biggest negative effect of diabetes that is uncontrolled is seen on kidneys. Several diabetic patients suffer from kidney failures annually across the world. A research indicates that uncontrolled diabetes is responsible for 90% of the kidney related deaths in the world.

A diabetic patient’s dietary habit plays a very important role in maintaining their health. There are several types of foods that they need to avoid in their daily diet. The kidneys are responsible for producing potassium in order to regulate the digestive system. The kidneys already regulate the potassium levels in the body and in process absorb this mineral into the organ. Supplying extra potassium thorugh our daily intake will cause the potassium levels to raise in the body. Kidneys are also responsible for regulating the blood pressure. Since the kidneys are constantly interacting with the blood levels it will absorb the impurities from the blood content. In the process they absorb minerals and bring their levels down in the blood stream. In this entire process of blood supply and purification kidneys have the largest role to play. It is a very hard working organ but at the same time it is fragile and delicate. Especially in people who suffer from diabetes the kidneys are already weak. So they should aim at completely eliminating the potassium from their diets.
Potassium is mostly found in fruits and vegetables that are bright yellow in color. Some of them are ripe mangoes, bananas, pumpkin, squash, marsh mallows, leeks and papaya. Some of the vegetables are yellow cucumbers, avocadoes, pumpkins, and zucchini. The best diet for a diabetic patient is a vegetarian diet and they should eat more of leafy green vegetable, drink prune juice and eat vegetables that are green like string beans, okra, egg plant, tomatoes and salads if possible. They can also eat greens like dill.
Diets for Protein Leak from Kidneys with Diabetes
Diabetes is one of the major causes for protein leak in the kidneys. The protein leaks in the kidneys are excreted through urine. When a urine test reveals that there is protein in it then it indicates a major problem like weakening kidneys. Diabetes also causes high blood sugar levels in the body. When a person is suffering from high sugar levels for a long period of time it impairs the renal filtration system. This causes the albumins or the proteins in the urine.
The leakage of proteins into urine can be prevented and controlled by eating a sensible diet. While most people can eat any kind of food, a diabetic person has to be mindful and watchful of what they are eating. They should be completely aware of the type of foods that they are not supposed to eat. Diabetes is a lifetime condition that has to be managed. There is no cure for this disease. The proteins that are digested cannot be processed by the renal filtration system. They need to eat diets that have a rich source of fiber. Fiber can pass through the renal filtration system easily without damaging it. Fiber rich foods like fruits and vegetables are very good for a diabetic person. There is no barrage on what kind of fruits or veggies they should have. Practically all of them suit the diet of a diabetic person.
It is not possible for most people to completely avoid salts as they provide taste but people with diabetes should reduce the intake of salts. A high salt diet can eventually cause life threatening conditions like diabetic nephropathy. This leads to complete kidney failure. Salt also causes high blood pressure which can further affect the kidneys. Salt digests the proteins and causes leaks in the kidneys as well. Moreover it causes retention in the body. The best way to cut salt intake is to use substitutes like lime juice and other alternative options to add taste to their food.
While some carbohydrates are good for health many of them are not. There are some types of carbohydrates that are found in chocolates and processed foods. These carbs can cause permanent kidney damage. The carbohydrates found in such foods cause the blood sugar levels to rise and promote kidney leaks. Sugars, salts, fats and proteins are difficult to be digested by the kidneys of a diabetic person. They cause stress to the kidneys and it results in weakening them further.
